Teaching Night: Teaching Elie Wiesel's Personal Memoir

This three-part webinar series will offer participants different ways of understanding Elie Wiesel and his transformative memoir, Night.

This first session focuses on our Teaching "Night” guide which interweaves a literary analysis of Elie Wiesel’s powerful and poignant memoir with an exploration of the relevant historical context surrounding his experience during the Holocaust. Webinar 1 will use Teaching "Night” to center the discussion around an essential question: How do instances of tragedy and trauma influence an individual’s identity and choices?

In this webinar series participants will:

  • Apply Facing History and Ourselves’ methodology to the study of Elie Wiesel and his memoir Night
  • Explore history and literature through themes of identity, we and they, choices, and civic participation
  • Learn a range of teaching strategies and resources for helping students process emotionally powerful material

This webinar is from 4 pm- 5pm ET.
