Opportunities and Challenges: Teaching Current Events in Jewish Educational Settings

Teaching current events can be challenging: The news cycle moves quickly, the issues can spark strong feelings, and classroom time is tight. Yet engaging with current events is an essential part of educating young people to be informed and humane participants in a democracy.  How can you create a space where students learn to exchange ideas and reflect on sometimes confusing or controversial current events as they happen? How does their identity as Jews help shape the ways they understand or engage with different current events?

During this webinar, we share tips and tools you can use in your classroom to help engage students in productive and meaningful discussions about current world issues. We also practice strategies to navigate heightened emotions and a range of perspectives in diverse settings.
