Advisory programs are designed to strengthen connectedness between adults and students and to foster a personalized and supportive school culture. Conversations and relationships built in advisory contribute to a caring, responsible, and responsive school culture. An effective advisory can help students develop a sense of who they can become, exercise their voice, explore relevant ethical and social issues, and contribute to the school and larger community.
In this workshop, participants will learn about many of the Facing History resources on themes of identity, membership, community, and Choosing to Participate that can be used to develop an advisory program that meets the needs of their school community. In addition, Facing History educators will share some of their successes and challenges in designing and implementing effective advisory programs.
*This event is free for Network educators. $20.00 for non-Network educators.
