La gimnasta olímpica, Kerri Strug, escribe lo siguiente:
He escuchado la misma pregunta una y otra vez desde que subí al podio olímpico a recibir mi medalla de oro en gimnasia. “¿Eres judía?”, pregunta la gente con tono de sorpresa. Tal vez es mi apariencia o el estereotipo de que los judíos y los deportes no combinan, lo que hace que mi ascendencia judía sea tan inesperada. Pienso en los atributos que me ayudaron a alcanzar ese podio: perseverancia frente al dolor, años de paciencia y esperanza en un futuro incierto, y la fe y la devoción por algo superior a mí. Es difícil para mí creer que no parecía judía allá arriba en el podio. A mi modo de ver, esos son atributos que han definido a los judíos a lo largo de la historia. 1
