About This Assessment

In this activity, students will return to the examples of changemakers they explored in Lessons 11 and 12. They will consider what they might learn from the choices made by students at Central High School and by the upstanders who supported the Little Rock Nine at great personal risk. They will also review the strategies used by these individuals and reflect on the lessons their examples teach of ways students might make change in their world today.

Activity: Review the Choices of Upstanders

In Lessons 11 and 12, students explored the choices made by students at Central High School and by the upstanders who supported the Little Rock Nine at great personal risk. Take time to ensure that students have recorded evidence from these lessons in the charts they created in their journals previously, in assessment step 2, using the handout The Choices of Individuals, Groups, and Institutions
