We Are Facing History: Change Starts with Us (Day and Evening Event)
Join us for a special day and evening event celebrating Facing History & Ourselves’ 20th Anniversary. This event will occur in-person.
We would be delighted for you to join us on Friday 21 June 2024 for two events celebrating our 20th Anniversary. Below are the event descriptions. You have the option to select tickets to attend either one or both events.
1.30-5.30pm, Friday 21 June
We Are Facing History Day Event: An Afternoon of Dialogue
Coram Centre, 41 Brunswick Square, London WC1N 1AZ
An afternoon of conversation and learning to explore how we can use our individual civic agency to affect change. Bringing together our community of teachers, supporters, young people and partners to think about the positive impact we can have as individuals, inspired by the actions of Facing History students.
Sessions will include:
- Keynote from Jon Alexander (author of "Citizens") - Jon will introduce the day with a thought provoking session on how we can all be better citizens
- Standing Up Against Racial and Religious Hatred
- Developing Media Literacy Skills to Safeguard Our Society
- Understanding and Assessing the UK’s Democracy in an Election Year
- Student panel: Change Starts with Us: Student Voices Shaping the 21st Century
6.30-8.30pm, Friday 21 June
We Are Facing History Evening Event: An Exclusive Panel Discussion featuring Magen Inon, Hamze Awawde and Mira Awad
The Foundling Museum, 40 Brunswick Square, London WC1N 1AZ
An evening featuring British-Israeli Magen Inon, whose parents were both killed by Hamas on October 7, and Palestinian peace activist Hamze Awawde. Both will share their stories and engage in conversation about how we build peace, hope and cohesion. Internationally acclaimed multidisciplinary artist and activist Mira Awad will facilitate the conversation.
We will also hear from teachers and students about the impact Facing History has had on them and how they are using lessons from the classroom to affect change in the world.
