About the Seminar

Studying the Holocaust and human behavior allows students to wrestle with profound moral questions raised by this history while fostering their skills in ethical and moral reasoning, critical analysis, empathy, and civic engagement—all of which are critical habits of mind for sustaining democracy.

Attend this unique multi-day summer seminar in Washington, DC to experience how Facing History’s proven pedagogy and classroom-ready materials can support your efforts to increase student engagement and hone these essential skills. Grounded in our foundational Holocaust and Human Behavior case study, this seminar will expand your readiness to adopt Facing History programming. 

Join us as we explore the integration of civic learning, literacy, and writing skills within the teaching of history. Along the way, you’ll get to know Facing History’s expert program staff and experience Facing History’s learning journey:

  • Explore: Center students’ identities, voices, and lived experiences as they develop civic agency and responsibility.
  • Learn: Build students’ civic knowledge and understanding by engaging them in inquiry and analysis of the complexities of history, human experience, and societal issues.
  • Participate: Create opportunities for students to learn how to share their perspectives, exercise their voice, and raise awareness in informed and ethical ways using a variety of formats and media.

Participants will receive a free copy of The Holocaust and Human Behavior resource book and the Teaching Holocaust and Human Behavior curriculum unit.


About Facing History

We bring 50 years of experience to this work and a proven track record. Students in our classrooms report that a Facing History class motivated them to learn, and teachers trained in our approach report being more satisfied in the profession and demonstrate greater self-efficacy in creating student-centered classrooms. 

Facing History invites you to experience directly how we can support you in creating classrooms where students thrive and succeed academically. Participants will engage in our professional learning through an in-person seminar anchored in our pedagogical approach to social studies and humanities, exploring our foundational case study, Holocaust and Human Behavior.

Cost to Attend: $50 registration fee. Scholarships are available.

Time: 8:30 AM - 3 PM ET for all 3 days.

Breakfast and lunch provided each day.
