During this session participants will:
-
Explore excerpts from the Civil Rights documentary series Eyes on the Prize, that directly connect with exhibits at the museum on content relating to school desegregation, the efforts of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the Memphis Sanitation Workers Strike that brought Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to Memphis in 1968.
-
Engage in conversation with SNCC Veteran, Eyes on the Prize creator and Education Director, Judy Richardson, who will share how the series was developed and ways to maximize its impact with students.
-
Examine the impact of non-violent direct action, civil disobedience, and collective organizing, as activists of all ages demanded that American policies and practices work to fulfill the promises of its founding documents. We will share ways in which these and other methods of resistance can be used today to push towards ensuring equality, equity, and freedom for all.
-
Experience curriculum, resources, and strategies from NCRM and Facing History & Ourselves that highlight crucial moments of oppression and resistance in American history and remind us of our power as changemakers.
The National Civil Rights Museum (NCRM) will partner with Facing History & Ourselves to offer collaborative programs using Eyes on the Prize and related NCRM exhibits. This interactive session is designed to empower teachers and students to analyze complex history and consider how we can be catalysts for positive social change today.
