This professional learning workshop for educators is a partnership between Facing History & Ourselves and the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center. Participants will visit the Voices of Genocide exhibit and explore the theme of “We and They.” We will examine primary and secondary sources that illuminate the stages and choices that led to the Armenian Genocide, including the impact of growing Turkish nationalism during the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the challenges faced by Armenians as they advocated for equal rights, and the forces that contributed to the systemic violent persecution of Armenians in the midst of World War I.
