Join Facing History for an in-person learning opportunity hosted by the LBJ Presidential Library: More Than a Ballot, A Voice! Exploring the Power of Voting Rights and Civic Engagement
Facing History is excited to be part of this two-day event to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
The workshop is open to K-12 educators, and will include scholarship about the historical and legal evolution of citizenship in the United States, while exploring engaging curriculum and pedagogical tools that bring the history to life.
Facing History will be leading sessions throughout both days focused on:
- creating a classroom environment that fosters civil discourse.
- introducing the Universe of Obligation as a lens for considering the complexities of human behavior.
- exploring what can be learned from the Reconstruction Era as we work to strengthen democracy today.
- considering the ways in which the Voting Rights Act of 1965 has been part of “making good on the promises” of democracy and freedom.
Sessions will include tools and resources educators can immediately use in their classrooms.
