Upon successful completion of the workshop, a certificate of completion for five PD-credit hours will be available that you can submit for your school's or district's approval. Requirements for professional development hours vary by state. It is the educator’s responsibility to ensure that they are meeting the requirements of their state.
This self-paced online workshop introduces Facing History & Ourselves’ case study Holocaust and Human Behavior through multimedia resources, readings, and teaching strategies that engage students in this powerful history and the themes of decision-making, ethics, and responsibility. This workshop provides lesson ideas and support to teachers who may have a limited amount of class time to teach about the history of Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. Participants will develop a customized teaching plan informed by Facing History’s approach and the Holocaust and Human Behavior one-week unit outline.
In this self-guided workshop, you will:
- Develop and plan to implement a short unit of study, built on the Facing History pedagogy, that focuses on the specific choices made by individuals, groups, and nations during the rise of the Nazi Party and the Holocaust and that makes connections to human behavior.
- Explore new concepts and a wide range of student-centered teaching strategies and select the strategies that you will use to teach this week-long unit and beyond.
- Draw upon your own increased or refreshed background knowledge of this period in history to guide students through this short unit.

Workshop At-a-Glance Details
Time Commitment: We estimate that it will take about one hour to complete each of the content modules. The modules are designed to be self-guided, and you can work at your own pace through the workshop.
Cost: Free. The registration fee and event fee for this online workshop have been waived, thanks to generous funding from Facing History & Ourselves donors and partner organizations.

Workshop Access: After registering, you will receive an email with self-enrollment instructions to access the workshop on the Facing History Canvas site. Check your spam folder if you don’t receive the email with self-enrollment instructions within 15 minutes after registering. Once you log in, you will have access to the workshop for three months.
