This self-paced online workshop introduces Facing History & Ourselves’ case study Holocaust and Human Behavior through multimedia resources, readings, and teaching strategies that engage students in this powerful history and the themes of decision-making, ethics, and responsibility. This workshop provides lesson ideas and support to teachers who may have a limited amount of class time to teach about the history of Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. Participants will develop a customized teaching plan informed by Facing History’s approach and the Holocaust and Human Behavior one-week unit outline.

In this self-guided workshop, you will:

  • Develop and plan to implement a short unit of study, built on the Facing History pedagogy, that focuses on the specific choices made by individuals, groups, and nations during the rise of the Nazi Party and the Holocaust and that makes connections to human behavior.
  • Explore new concepts and a wide range of student-centered teaching strategies and select the strategies that you will use to teach this week-long unit and beyond.
  • Draw upon your own increased or refreshed background knowledge of this period in history to guide students through this short unit.
