The recent 70th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education highlights the historical importance of the decision and the ongoing need to achieve equity for all students. During this webinar, Dr. Bunch will discuss the implications and unintended consequences of Brown v. Board, and provide action-oriented tools to create more inclusive and equitable spaces. Drawing from her research on Black female educators in Mississippi and her book The Magnitude of Us: A Guidebook for Creating Culturally Responsive Classrooms (Teachers College Press, 2024), Dr. Bunch will explore how inclusive teaching and leading practices are essential for realizing Brown’s full dream. Attendees will leave feeling better supported, empowered, and equipped to move equitable teaching into consistent and intentional practice.
Participants will leave with:
- Deeper understanding of the historical foundation and connections between the civil rights era (1954–1970) and today’s educational landscape.
- Insights into how reflection can be used as a tool and practice towards unlearning, relearning, and mitigating our biases.
- Tools for implementing and sustaining culturally responsive pedagogy and practices (e.g. un/HUSH framework, Socratic discussion, oral histories, storytelling, etc.).
This is a Zoom webinar with live captioning. You’ll be able to participate using the chat and will be off camera. If this time doesn’t work for your schedule, be sure to register, and we’ll notify you once the recording is available On-Demand.
