Session Highlights

  1. This online workshop is primarily designed for middle and high school teachers, but can be applicable to planning for some lower grades.

  2. Content will focus on ready-to-use materials and teaching strategies that align with the goals of Florida’s Holocaust Education Week.

  3. In addition to providing lesson planning resources, we will also consider how to support students in building the skills needed for civil discourse and discussing challenging topics.

  4. Facing History’s approach asks students to consider how lessons of the past can help us make choices today for a better future.

Holocaust Education Week in Florida takes place each year during the second week of November, coinciding with the anniversary of Kristallnacht, a watershed event in history. Join us for support in planning for student experiences during this week that will contribute to deepening their knowledge of the Holocaust and the roots of antisemitism.

In this 90-minute online workshop, you will:

  • Experience Facing History & Ourselves materials and teaching strategies that support students’ intellectual and emotional engagement with the study of key events in history.
  • Collaborate with educators from across Florida to begin developing plans for Holocaust Education Week.

After the workshop, attendees will:

  1. Receive a link to a collection of resources used throughout the session that they can use immediately in their classrooms.
  2. Become part of the Facing History educator network, with access to a rich slate of resources, including downloadable units and lesson plans, study guides, and multimedia on a variety of Social Studies and ELA topics.

Cost: The fee for this seminar has been waived thanks to generous funding from Facing History & Ourselves donors and partner organizations.
