See DetailsIn this event in our Echoes of the Holocaust series, explore the effects of the Holocaust on the Jewish communities of North Africa and the diversity of pre-war Jewish life in Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Tunisia.
In what ways do the experiences of Jews in pre-war and wartime North Africa provide a more complete story of World War II and the Holocaust? How did the antisemitic legislation passed by different colonial powers affect the local Jewish communities in this region? How might exploring the interreligious dynamics of pre-war North Africa inform our understanding of religion and identity and how to relate across differences today?
Join us to explore these questions and learn tools to incorporate North African Holocaust history into the broader discourse and into today’s Holocaust and World War II curriculum.
This workshop is brought to you by the Facing History and Ourselves Echoes of the Holocaust series, a communal conversation focusing on the voices of contemporary scholars, writers, and artists as they reflect on the relationship between Holocaust history and the present.
