It has become widely accepted that gender is more than a simple binary, more than being either a man or a woman, and that the expectations that someone should behave a certain way because of their gender are limiting and outdated. Society’s understanding of sexuality has also evolved: people’s preferences are diverse, cannot be easily categorised, and should be safeguarded and respected. However, despite the evolution in our understanding of these concepts, the complexities of gender and sexuality are still not accepted or respected by all. It is therefore important to talk about these topics with students so that they can develop a well-rounded understanding of gender and sexuality, and a respect for people’s preferences and choices in identifying how they wish.
Join us for a one-hour conversation in which we will explore how to discuss gender and sexuality with your students in a brave and reflective way. There will be the opportunity to discuss and share experiences with other teachers in break out rooms.
This event is aimed at teachers in the UK.
