Participants will:

  1. Receive a curated collection of Facing History resources, including our guide, Fostering Civil Discourse: Difficult Classroom Conversations in a Diverse Democracy 

  2. Preview classroom-ready lessons shared by the Holocaust and Social Justice Education Program’s Legacy Fellows

  3. Have collaborative planning time to adapt resources for their students

  4. Leave with ready-to-use strategies, rich primary resources, and renewed inspiration to help students think critically, read deeply, and engage respectfully with the world around them

Join the Holocaust and Social Justice Education Program of Chautauqua County, in partnership with Facing History & Ourselves, for a dynamic day of professional learning designed for middle school and high school Social Studies and ELA educators.  Participants will gain resources and skills to foster civil discourse around potentially divisive topics in their schools and classrooms. 

This workshop will be held in person in Chautauqua, New York. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Full address and directions will be provided by email when your registration is confirmed.

Cost: Free. This workshop is generously funded by the Holocaust and Social Justice Education Program of Chautauqua County.

Certificate of Completion

This event qualifies for a Certificate of Completion. At the conclusion of the event, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion for 6 hour(s) of attendance. Certificates may be submitted for a school’s or district’s approval towards professional development credits. Requirements for professional development credits vary by state. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that they are meeting the requirements of their school, organization, and/or state.
