Join us on April 22 from 4:30-6:30pm at The Erikson Institute 451 N. LaSalle Street, Chicago for a Conversation with Dr. Eve L. Ewing about her new book Original Sins: The (Mis)education of Black and Native Children and the Construction of American Racism.
Dr. Ewing is an author, poet, and sociologist based in Chicago; she is an assistant professor at the University of Chicago School of Social Service. Together we will consider the purpose of schools historically, and how we can collectively be “architects of what is to come.” As she suggests, “Only by facing our ugliest narratives of the past can we hope not to ‘move past them,’ but to surmount them.”
This special event is for leadership teams and educators from our Partner School Network, Chicago educators who participate on our teacher leadership teams, as well as Facing History supporters and community partners. We’ll start the evening with a light dinner and exploration of Facing History & Ourselves resources and then we’ll move into a talk by Dr. Ewing followed by Q&A. Participants will receive a copy of Original Sins.
