Angie Deane Joins Facing History & Ourselves as Chief Development Officer

Veteran fundraiser for atrocity prevention set to lead development.

Following a national search, Facing History & Ourselves is excited to formally announce Angela Deane as our new Chief Development Officer. Angie is a seasoned fundraising executive with more than two decades of experience in human rights and global nonprofit leadership. Her role at Facing History will place her at the helm of philanthropic strategy, coming to us at a pivotal time for our organization and the communities we serve.

Angie brings an extraordinary combination of fundraising acumen, international leadership, and values-driven commitment to educating the next generation. Her experience securing philanthropic support on a global scale will be invaluable as demand for Facing History’s curriculum continues to grow.

Angie comes to Facing History from Human Rights Watch. She was most recently the Chief Development Officer at Human Rights Watch, overseeing a $100 million in revenue and a global team working to secure dignity and justice for all people. During her nearly 13 years at Human Rights Watch, she held a succession of senior positions including Managing Director for North America and New York City Director, playing a central role in expanding donor networks, scaling giving strategies, and stewarding major gifts around the world.

Her career reflects a longstanding dedication to atrocity prevention, equity, and justice. Angie has also served as Development Director at both the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect and the Genocide Intervention Network in Washington, DC.

She holds a Master’s degree in Global Affairs from New York University and a Bachelor’s degree in French and Communications from Miami University and the Sorbonne. 

In her first all-staff meeting, Angie shared that she has long admired Facing History’s model of equipping educators and young people to stand up to hate and make ethical choices. She went on to express her enthusiasm for our organization and her eagerness to jump into the challenges and work ahead:
