Gift Acceptance Policy

Basics of This Gift Acceptance Policy

Acceptance of any gift or grant is solely at the discretion of Facing History and Ourselves.

Gift Acceptance Policy

Facing History and Ourselves engages students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice, and antisemitism to develop a more humane and informed citizenry. We look forward to being in partnership with our donors to achieve our mission, and are grateful for all gifts and grants from donors in support of our organization’s work. Donations generally will be accepted from individuals, partnerships, corporations, organizations, government agencies, or other entities without limitations— unless acceptance of gifts from a specific source is inconsistent with Facing History’s beliefs, values, and mission. Acceptance of any gift or grant is solely at the discretion of Facing History.

Donors are encouraged to support areas reflecting their interests. Facing History and Ourselves’ priorities include gifts for unrestricted, restricted and endowment purposes. A selection of named or commemorative gift opportunities may be made available to each donor. Such opportunities represent a tangible means of demonstrating an individual donor’s investment in Facing History and Ourselves’ mission. When gifts or grants with restrictions are accepted, restrictions will be honored in accordance with the proposal to the donor and Facing History’s policies on restricted funding (and subject to all applicable laws).

Multiyear pledges for ongoing support and the Sustaining Gift Program are welcome, but generally for no more than five years. Donors should complete and sign a gift or pledge agreement form detailing the purpose of the gift, payment schedule, and how they wish their names to appear in donor recognition materials. The agreement is found here.

The President and Chief Executive Officer and senior staff, in consultation with Facing History’s legal counsel, will review gifts other than cash or marketable securities. These will be reviewed for acceptance on a case-by-case basis. We encourage donors to seek guidance from their professional advisors on the tax implications of their gifts and grants to Facing History. We respect donor privacy, and donor information that should be private and confidential will not be made public. Please contact the Development Office regarding any questions.
