    Getting Started with Holocaust and Human Behavior

    This self-paced workshop introduces Facing History and Ourselves’ case study, Holocaust and Human Behavior, through multimedia resources, readings, and teaching strategies that engage students in this powerful history and the themes of decision making, ethics, and responsibility. This workshop is designed to provide lesson ideas and support to teachers who may have a limited amount of class time to teach about the history of Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. This interactive workshop uses resources from the companion resource book Holocaust and Human Behavior and helps teachers develop a customized teaching plan informed by Facing History’s approach and the one-week unit outline.

    Facing History CPS Curriculum Project: Holocaust and Human Behavior

    In today’s world, questions of how to best build and maintain democratic societies that are pluralistic, open, and resilient to violence are more relevant than ever. Designed for World Studies educators participating in the Facing History and Ourselves CPS Curriculum Project, participants will receive a copy of the Holocaust and Human Behavior curriculum, along with a 5-week unit plan created for Chicago Public School classrooms.

    Legacies: Purchased Lives

    Using Illinois Holocaust Museum’s special exhibition “Purchased Lives,” we will  investigate the origins of concepts of race, and how assumptions led to justification for inhumane treatment and enslavement of others.Comprehending the impact of enslaving people is both challenging and crucial in understanding America’s history.  In this workshop, through resources and teaching strategies, Facing History will support educators (and their students) in exploring this difficult history and its legacies today.
