Challenging Middle Schoolers to be Upstanders through the Humanities: Middle School Exploratory Course

This workshop will take middle school teachers on an inspiring, challenging, and empowering intellectual journey. The shifts in teacher mindsets and practices that we encourage ultimately lead to more equitable student interactions and outcomes. Our goal is for educators to move to more culturally-mediated and equitable practices where all students find their voice, become critical thinkers, and are more engaged in their education.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Engage with classroom-ready multimedia resources and learn how to build a customized unit

  • Discover new teaching strategies that help students interrogate text, think critically, and discuss controversial issues respectfully

  • Receive a free copy of the Memphis Exploratory Teacher's Course Outline: Grade 6, 7, or 8

After this workshop, you will:

  • Receive coaching and support as you implement these resources and strategies in your classroom

  • Become part of the Facing History Educator Network with access to educator resources, including downloadable unit and lesson plans, study guides, and books & DVDs accessible through our
    free online lending library
