Facing History is proud to be partnering with The 1619 Project to get these rich materials into the hands of teachers who wish to use this resource with their students:
“The 1619 Project is a major initiative from The New York Times observing the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery. It aims to reframe the country’s history, understanding 1619 as our true founding, and placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of the story we tell ourselves about who we are.”
If you are in the New York area, we invite you to come to an open house at the Facing History New York Office on January 13th or January 16th, 5:00 - 5:45 pm to pick up complimentary classroom sets of the from the New York Times’ 1619 Project. While this is not a workshop, we will create an opportunity for teachers to talk with each other and with Facing History staff about how they are thinking of using the materials, companion pieces which may be helpful, and what challenges and opportunities they are experiencing in teaching about the issues of race historically and today.
RSVP to reserve up to 30 copies of the materials. Copies will be provided on a first come, first served basis based on RSVPs (when you RSVP, your materials are reserved for you, no matter which date you come to the office).
