Audience: Educators in Ohio and surrounding states
Stories have the power to transform the way young people see themselves and others. Join us as we explore ways to use literature to engage youth in thinking about identity, analyzing adolescent choices, and reflecting on the impact of circumstances on individuals.
Participants will learn ways to use the Facing History approach to teach any literary text and will receive rich primary sources and historical background for teaching fiction and memoir.
Recommended for 6th-12th grade teachers.
In this workshop you will:
- Discover new interdisciplinary teaching strategies that reinforce historical thinking and literacy skills.
- Explore topics such as identity and belonging, membership, stereotypes, and upstander behavior.
- Learn practical and interactive literacy strategies for hybrid and remote learning.
