Navigating our Democracy: A Forum on Promoting Democratic Ideals in the Classroom

Election season is upon us and we are confronted with the complexity and fragility of democracy. This can feel especially daunting and difficult to navigate for young people. During this time of deep political division, how can educators provide support for young people to participate actively in our democracy? What strategies can educators use to help students practice constructive civil discourse?

Join us for a forum that will provide tools and resources you can use in your classroom that foster civil discourse and support a critical understanding of voting rights and political polarization in the United States.

Civic participation is an essential component to the functioning of a democracy. In this forum, participants will

  • Learn how to create a learning environment that can effectively support civil discourse
  • Experience  teaching strategies to support the facilitation of challenging conversations
  • Explore resources that promote a critical understanding of voting rights and political polarization in the United States
This workshop will be held via Zoom. Details for joining the Zoom meeting will be shared by email prior to the event.
