FY20 Advanced Elective: Holocaust and Human Behavior

This interactive multimedia  workshop has been designed to support the professional growth of Facing History and Ourselves Elective Teachers. Facilitators will engage Elective teachers in a deep exploration of the newly updated content in the 4th Edition of the Facing History and Ourselves Holocaust and Human Behavior resource book and work with our lead Curriculum Writer to explore and update the current course curriculum. Facing History staff will model Facing History’s pedagogy and teaching strategies in order to support teachers as they engage  students in student-centered lessons that are designed to increase the critical thinking skills necessary to examine, analyze, interpret and compare primary source documents related to the course curriculum. This workshop will emphasize the following:

  • Student Engagement: Using pedagogical best practices that make curriculum accessible and relevant for a diverse student population
  • Literacy - and State Standards - Aligned Teaching Strategies: Teaching evidence-based writing and adjusting instruction to meet different learning styles
  • Fostering  Reflective and Equitable Learning Communities: Promoting discussions that foster social, emotional, ethical growth, student voice and civic agency
