LGBTQ Identity & Fostering Empathy in the Classroom

How does learning about the histories of marginalized groups foster empathy and social-emotional learning? How can integrating the missing voices of LGBTQ community members help create safer and more inclusive classroom communities? This interactive workshop will: 

  • Explore Facing History themes such as identity, membership, and civic participation.

  • Discover new teaching strategies, activities, and resources to respect student identities and help foster equity of voice.

  • Generate ideas for incorporating LGBTQ histories and the histories of other marginalized groups into coursework. 

After this workshop, you will:

  • Become part of the Facing History Educator Network, with access to educator resources, including unit and lesson plans, study guides, streaming video.

  • Be able to borrow books and DVDs through our online lending library at no cost.
