Prepare students for college, career, and civic life by building literacy skills needed for effective civic engagement in the 21st century, as described in the newly updated California History-Social Science Framework and the California Common Core State Standards.


In collaboration with the San Diego County Office of Education, Facing History and Ourselves shares practical resources and strategies for 7–12 History-Social Studies educators to:

  • Foster disciplinary exploration of content
  • Conduct close reading of informational text
  • Analyze challenging complex text
  • Strengthen critical thinking and speaking skills
  • Build informative, explanatory, and argumentative writing skills needed to address compelling issues in today's world

After this workshop you will:

  • Become part of the Facing History educator network, with access to a rich slate of educator resources, including unit and lesson plans, study guides, and multimedia
  • Be able to borrow books and DVDs through our online lending library at no cost
