As the 50th anniversary of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination approaches, his life and legacy are as relevant as ever. What can be learned from exploring the events that brought King to Memphis in the spring of 1968? What progress has been made in the advancement of human rights in this nation? What work remains to be done to realize his "dream"? This workshop will use a variety of multimedia resources to address these questions and more.

In this workshop you will:

  • Discover new interdisciplinary teaching strategies that examine this history through a critical lens

  • Explore themes of identity, membership, and history in order to better understand the connection between past and present

This workshop is recommended for upper middle and high school social studies, civics, and humanities teachers. Scholarships are available for CPS educators. Scholarships cover all costs except a $10 registration fee payable upon acceptance.
