Smith Family Senior Vice President and Chief Officer, Program & Thought Leadership

Abby Weiss has served as the Smith Family Senior Vice President and Chief Program Officer of Facing History & Ourselves since 2020. She leads all aspects of program implementation. This includes being responsible for the ongoing professional development of program staff and educators along with innovation of our classroom resources.

Abby’s career has been driven by her passion for supporting the advancement of all students, from early education through post-secondary studies, particularly those who have been underserved by our education system.

Before joining Facing History, Abby was Chief Program Officer at Jumpstart, a national early education organization. There she helmed the buildup and execution of programmatic and evaluation strategy, policy and advocacy work, and their workforce pathways initiative. Prior to her time at Jumpstart, Abby helped launch the Education Redesign Lab at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education to build a new “education engine” for economically disadvantaged students. She also managed Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick’s Child and Youth Readiness Cabinet, collaborating with school district leadership in high poverty communities across the state to improve outcomes for children and their families.

Abby received an EdM from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a BA from Brown University.
