Facing History and Ourselves just completed an amazing third year of offering a high school semester elective course in both Memphis and Shelby County Schools. There are 20 schools offering the elective-literally quadrupling over the last three years.

Assisi Foundation Middle School Initiative

The Memphis office has completed the first year and a half of a three year grant from the Assisi Foundation, which will ultimately result in Facing History and Ourselves units in every 6th, 7th, and 8th grade social studies course in both the Memphis City (MCS) and Shelby County School (SCS) Systems. In 2007, we conducted four three-day Choices in Little Rock workshops, which trained every 8th grade U.

Chattanooga Community Conversation with Mona Golabek

On September 23, Facing History and Ourselves and The Allstate Foundation hosted our first Community Conversation in Chattanooga at the Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts. The evening featured a performance by Mona Golabek, concert pianist and the author of The Children of Willesden Lane about her mother's experience as one of the 10,000 children brought to England before World War II as part of the Kindertransport, a mission to rescue children threatened by the Nazis.
