Curriculum Outlines

  • The course draws from the content and methodology of Facing History and Ourselves. Facing History is an international education foundation focusing on curriculum and teacher development. Since 1976 Facing History has engaged teachers and students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice, and antisemitism in order to promote the development of a more humane and informed citizenry.
  • This course is designed with middle and high school students in mind. The unit outline can and should be adapted to suit the needs of your class. The extent to which you cover the suggested lessons will depend on the grade that you are teaching as well as the number of classes that you have allocated for teaching the Facing History and Ourselves Scope and Sequence.

  • The Facing History and Ourselves Jewish Education Project provides teachers in Jewish educational settings with training, support and resources designed to help educators teach the Facing History and Ourselves curriculum as effectively as possible. Through one-day seminars, two-day workshops and week-long seminars, Facing History provides content and pedagogy applicable to Jewish educational settings.
  • This unit will highlight the dramatically different ways Germany responded to the economic crisis. Students are encouraged to reflect throughout their study on the central question: What can we learn from this history that can help us strengthen democracy today?
