Alain Resnais has combined scenes of Nazi extermination camps today with historic film footage and still photographs to create a film that succeeds in being poetic and brutal simultaneously. He uses some of the most graphic pictures of Nazi atrocities in combination with a script that is almost poetry, but the kind of which nightmares are made. While this film has been criticized for its failure to mention the Jews as victims, it is considered a "classic" both for its artistry and expression of Nazi horror. Note: This graphic film is not recommended for younger audiences
