The video montage Friedrich has been designed to accompany Hans Richter's novel of the same name. It enhances Richter's story of two young boys (the non-Jewish narrator and his Jewish friend) who are caught up in the events of Germany during the Weimar and Nazi eras. The video also illuminates certain historical and emotional issues raised throughout the novel. The witnesses in the video were children or adolescents at the time, and they reflect on events that parallel those in Friedrich. Part of the Elements of Time series.
