This lesson looks
at the issues of civil liberties, freedom and safety and the tensions
that may arise in a democracy. Using resources created by Facing
History and Ourselves after September 11, 2001, the lesson will help
students think about the ways democracy can respond to terrorism and
retain democratic traditions.
