(Boston Globe,
December 2, 2007) Over the past year, across the country, nooses have
been hung in public places as a sign of racial intimidation. The
article, "Noose: The true history of a resurgent symbol of hate,"
provides historical context to explain how nooses have become a
powerful symbol of racism. The US has a long history of lynching
predating the Civil War, including the lynching of Emmett Till that helped launch the civil rights movement.
