Organizational Profile
During the past 31 years, Facing
History and Ourselves has achieved a solid international reputation
among educators, students, individual supporters and
foundations/corporations. Known for its quality programs and the
"relentless excellence" of its staff, Facing History reaches an
estimated 1.8 million students annually through its network of 25,000
educators around the globe, while providing the community and the
broader education market with timely and relevant resource materials.
In addition to delivering content and services to educators through
traditional face-to-face workshops and institutes, Facing History has
been on the cutting edge in its use of the Internet to further extend
our reach and impact. Over the past year alone, our web site has
received over 30 million hits. Over 50,000 visit our site each month
because they know that Facing History can provide them with the
materials and resources they need to make a difference.
Currently, major urban school systems are looking to implement Facing
History programs system-wide; ongoing evaluations attest to their
effectiveness. At the same time, partnerships with institutions of
higher learning are extending our reach. With a worldwide presence in
over 96 countries, including Rwanda, South Africa, and the Czech
Republic, Facing History's strategic plan calls for a significant
increase in reach and impact domestically through seven offices,
internationally via a hub in the UK and through global partnerships
that deliver our pedagogy and materials on the ground and online.
Facing History and Ourselves has been featured as a validated best
practice by the U.S. Department of Education for over 25 years. We are
regularly recognized as a model NGO.
