Nick Maraventano
Since attending a Holocaust and Human Behavior Institute in 1998, Nick Maraventano,
a social studies and history teacher at a suburban public high school
on Long Island, New York, has deeply infused Facing History into his
classroom. Currently, along with colleagues Jim Whelan and Peter
Devlin, he teaches a Facing History and Ourselves senior elective
course that more the 75% of the student body takes. Maraventano, and
several other teachers in his department, continue to invigorate their
teaching strategies by regularly participating in Facing History
workshops and institutes.
"Students learn how precious democracy is and that when it fails, how the likelihood of injustice dramatically increases. They come to appreciate that democracy comes with incredible privileges and enormous responsibilities to participate and be involved." - Nick Maraventano
