A Visit with One of the Little Rock Nine in San Francisco

January 22, 2008

Community members and teachers recently had the chance to hear Dr. Terrence Robert's firsthand account of the days of fear, hatred and compassion he experienced as one of the brave nine students who integrated Central High School in Little Rock, 1957. On December 13th at KQED studios, Roberts spoke to 75 educators at our "Eyes on the Prize Workshop" which also explored the acclaimed documentary series and Facing History's accompanying study guide. That same day Facing History students at the Youth Empowerment School in Oakland and City Arts and Tech School in San Francisco also had the opportunity to connect with Roberts in a very personal way as he shared his adolescent experience and the choices he faced.

In the evening, a kick-off reception for the San Francisco Bay Area Annual Benefit Dinner, Roberts inspired the group with a preview of what he will say at the benefit on May 4th. The attendees were energized to make sure their friends and colleagues attend the benefit on May 4, where Roberts will be the keynote speaker.
