Strategies for Teaching Religious Tolerance and Cultural Understanding in Preparation for the 10th Anniversary of 9/11
The organization Teaching Tolerance recently highlighted our resources on religious tolerance, specifically a video featuring Eboo Patel, executive director of Interfaith Youth Core. In this video, Patel spoke about the enormous demographic influence of young people in today's world, and the crucial experiences that allow us to deal with religious diversity, friendship, and standing up for each other.
This video was listed among other valuable resources to help bring 9/11 into the classroom. "The 10th Anniversary of 9/11 is obviously a time for reflection," wrote Thom Ronk, curriculum design manager for Teaching Tolerance. "But we hope that teachers also recognize it as a time to nurture constructive relationships with people whose backgrounds differ from our own."
Founded in 1991 by the Southern Poverty Law Center, Teaching Tolerance is dedicated to reducing prejudice, improving intergroup relations and supporting equitable school experiences for our nation's children.
