Op-Ed from Margot Stern Strom Published in "Commercial Appeal"

November 10, 2012

Facing History and Ourselves’ co-founder and executive director Margot Stern Strom recently published an op-ed piece in the Memphis-based Commercial Appeal newspaper.

“While the core case study of Facing History and Ourselves examines the failure of democracy in Germany and the years leading to the Holocaust, other case studies, such as the civil rights struggle in America, the eugenics movement and apartheid in South Africa, broaden and deepen the Facing History journey,” Strom wrote. “A Facing History class is often the only place in a school where students discover that the world can be repaired, and violence can be prevented.”

The Commercial Appeal featured Strom's op-ed in advance of Engaging Education: Rethinking Learning, Teaching, and Achievement in Urban Schools, a full-day conference in Memphis hosted by Facing History that will explore issues of urban education worldwide.
