Martha Minow Appointed Dean of Harvard Law School

We are so excited at the announcement that Martha Minow has been appointed as the Dean of Harvard Law School.   Martha, who chairs the Facing History and Ourselves International Board of Scholars is an invaluable leader, intellectual mentor, teacher, Board member and friend  to this entire organization.

Martha is the ultimate scholar, teacher and convener of big ideas. Her book Between Vengeance and Forgiveness: Facing History after Genocide and Mass Violence, grew out of an early Facing History conference. She leads our partnership with Harvard Law School, bringing us access to its faculty and students. Last November, with Martha as co-chair, we hosted a conference commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which will frame our forthcoming materials on the role of Eleanor Roosevelt.  Martha works with our R & D team, articulating the underlying ideas and creating and reviewing such materials as the Facing the Truth study guide, the case studies in the Making History Series, in particular the story of Raphael Lemkin, and many other video and print resources.

Martha personifies the Facing History belief in linking classrooms to communities.  We can always count on her to take a complicated topic or discussion and reduce it to the essential questions.  Her leadership as Dean will give her yet another platform to influence the education of Harvard Law students and the teachers and students of Facing History and the world.
