Lessons from History Helping to Shape a Shared Future

June 16, 2011

Our "Facing our History, Shaping the Future" project was recently highlighted on the International Fund for Ireland website. The project is a three-year initiative to train and support teachers and student teachers, and provides cross-community residential programmes at the Corrymeela Centre in Ballycastle, Northern Ireland. We have a strong partnership with the Corrymeela Centre, which is a non-sectarian non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting reconciliation. Michael McIntyre of our UK office and Sean Pettis of the Corrymeela Centre are both heavily involved in the project. Pettis describes the focus of the project, "History has often been used as a tool to reinforce division in our society. Through working with educators and young people, we have the opportunity to wrestle with the challenges of the past and learn lessons that can support a more peaceful and inclusive future."
