Facing History Students Travel to White House for Civil Rights Programming
We are thrilled to share the news that Facing History students visited The White House this week! There, they joined high school students from across the United States for powerful activities and programming centered around the music of the civil rights movement. First Lady Michelle Obama greeted the students at The White House's "Music that Inspired the Movement" class, led by The GRAMMY Museum. The program taught students about how the music of the civil rights movement is as important to today's generation as it was to generations past. More information about the students’ activities, and other programming that President and Mrs. Obama hosted, is available at www.pbs.org/inperformanceatthewhitehouse.
We are delighted that The GRAMMY Museum distributed a copy of Facing History's Eyes on the Prize study guide to all participating students and teachers. We created this resource, which offers important lessons about the power of ordinary citizens to shape democracy, in 2006 to accompany the landmark PBS documentary about the civil rights movement.
