Worse Than War: Genocide, Eliminationism, and the Ongoing Assault on Humanity
A conversation with best-selling author Dr. Daniel Jonah Goldhagen
Presented by Facing History and Ourselves & Equity Studies, New College, University of Toronto
Toronto, ON - On October 13, 2009 from 7:30-9:30 p.m., Facing History and Ourselves and Equity Studies, New College, University of Toronto will host a conversation with international best-selling author Dr. Daniel Jonah Goldhagen about his latest book entitled, “Worse Than War: Genocide, Eliminationism, and the Ongoing Assault on Humanity.” The conversation will take place at the William Doo Auditorium, New College, University of Toronto, 45 Wilcocks Street.
The author of Hitler’s Willing Executioners, Dr. Daniel Jonah Goldhagen's books stir passionate public debate among political and civic leaders, scholars, and the general public. They compel people to rethink the most powerful conventional wisdoms and stubborn moral problems of all time.
Worse than War is “a paradigm-changing investigation into the phenomenon of genocide and mass killing.” Drawing on extensive field work and research from around the world, Dr. Goldhagen explores the anatomy of genocide—explaining why genocides begin, are sustained, and end; why societies support them; why they happen so frequently; and how the international community should and can successfully stop them.
Worse Than War gets to the heart of the phenomenon, genocide, that has caused more deaths in the modern world than military conflict. Dr. Goldhagen’s discussion will focus on the roots of these conflicts and the ways to prevent genocide in the future. The talk will be followed by a book signing.
