Community Conversation with John Prendergast

October 22, 2007

On October 16, 2007 John Prendergast spoke to over 500 community members at Northwestern Law School's Thorne Auditorium. John is co-author of the highly acclaimed book, Not on Our Watch, with actor Don Cheadle. He is also Co-Chair of the ENOUGH Campaign, which works to put an end to genocide. John spoke passionately about the current genocide in Darfur and how Americans can get involved to end the genocide. He spoke about the necessity to end genocides and mass conflict through peace, punishment and prevention.

After John's main speech, three students from the Facing History Student Leadership Team in Chicago joined John on stage to ask him questions about his experiences dealing with human rights and African issues. John advised the students on how to be young activists and continue to be optimistic and persistent in the face of great challenges.

The event was part of a national series of community conversations sponsored by The Allstate Foundation and Facing History which feature prominent scholars, authors, filmmakers and policy leaders addressing issues of tolerance, civic engagement, and individual and collective responsibility.
