Book Talk with Joshua Rubenstein and Allan Ryan, Harvard Book Store, Feb. 15
Facing History and Ourselves Scholar-In-Residence Joshua Rubenstein will introduce lawyer, Harvard University scholar, and former Facing History Board Member Allan A. Ryan at a free discussion of Ryan’s new book Yamashita's Ghost: War Crimes, MacArthur's Justice, and Command Accountability.
Yamashita's Ghost looks at the case against General Tomoyuki Yamashita who commanded Japan’s Philippine forces in the final year of World War II. The book highlights crucial questions and controversies that have surrounded Yamashita’s trial and conviction and deepens our understanding of broader contemporary issues—especially the limits of command accountability. Should a commander be held accountable for the crimes of his troops, even if he has no knowledge of them?
The event will take place on Friday, Febraury 15, at the Harvard Book Store (1256 Massachusetts Ave. Cambridge, Massachusetts) and will begin at 3:00 p.m.
