“GOOD Magazine” Shines Spotlight on Facing History Upstanders

October 22, 2012

“How do schools create a learning environment that is supportive and safe for all students?” GOOD Magazine recently asked its readers in an article highlighting Facing History and Ourselves’ fall 2012 Upstander Contest. “It starts with teachers, administrators, coaches, and mentors who stand up against injustice, prejudice, and bullying on campus.”

The Upstander Contest, which celebrates educators worldwide that have taught us to stand up and speak out, will award a $5,000 grant to one secondary school teacher, coach, administrator, or mentor. The contest drew over 500 nominations from around the world. From the nominations, Facing History will select 20 semifinalists and then let the public vote on the most inspirational Upstander. The recipient of the most votes will receive funding to help them continue their work as an Upstander.
