Benefit Dinners

Benefit Dinners offer an opportunity for members of the Facing History community to come together and be inspired by stories from Facing History teachers, students, supporters and friends, and to learn more about our program.

Past keynote speakers have included former Secretary General of the United Nations Kofi Annan, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Samantha Power, actor and human rights activist Don Cheadle, and Dr. Terrence Roberts of the Little Rock Nine.

In this clip from the 2008 Cleveland Benefit, Greg, a Facing History teacher, speaks about Facing History’s challenge to its teachers and students: to take seriously one’s choices, actions, and attitudes.

"How do you make sense of genocide? Hatred? Intolerance? And since these issues are so central to the human condition, how can we create young adults with the ability and the will to wrestle with these questions? I’ll tell you how: Facing History and Ourselves."
