China
In 2007, Facing History and Ourselves began to investigate how we might expand our international reach to China in response to interest from teachers and scholars within our network. The resulting project promotes a deeper cross-cultural understanding of history both by working with teachers in the U.S. and other countries outside of China to better understand and teach about China, and working with teachers in China to explore Facing History themes in their classrooms and encourage deeper reflection from their students.
Facing History works closely with 12 schools in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Shenzen and Hong Kong, and has developed several university and NGO partnerships. Since the project began, over 1,300 educators from across the globe have participated in China Project activities. For educators in the U.S. and other countries beyond China, we have created study guides for Red Scarf Girl: A Memoir of the Cultural Revolution and the PBS Documentary Becoming American: The Chinese Experience. Facing History is developing a new resource that will explore the history and legacy of the Nanjing Massacre
Highlights
