Publications and Resources

Our scope and sequence provides a timeless framework which links history to ethics by engaging teachers and students in a journey from identity, through the study of particular historical case study, to questions of judgment and participation-provoking questions that are both particular and universal. Our work encourages students to make thoughtful connections to the world around them.

Resource Books
Facing History's first resource book, Facing History & Ourselves: Holocaust and Human Behavior, remains the core of our program. Using the case study of the Holocaust as a lens, we are continually expanding our offering resource books to include a range of other historical moments and movements that, when examined, reveal the essential connection between history and the moral choices students confront in their own lives.

Study Guides
Facing History is sought after to create study guides and lesson plans for commercial films, public television features, books, and audio resources. From Elie Wiesel's Night and Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List, to Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston's Farewell to Manzanar and Anna Deavere Smith's Twilight: Los Angeles-our study guides provide a historical and conceptual context for using these resources in the classroom.

Educator Resources
Since its inception in 2000, Facing History's resources have been changing the way teachers around the globe exchange ideas and strategies for teaching about history and ethics. This section has grown to provide not only links to publications and lesson plans, but also an intellectually rich environment in which educators can discuss and exchange thoughts on teaching about difficult issues-in history and in contemporary society.
